Web Page Directory Scam

Customers are asked to ignore and throw away letters from a company called the WORLD WEB PAGE DIRECTORY.

This company is attempting to extract money (up to €492.50) from recipients for a simple business listing on their website. The letter resembles an invoice, and appears to be asking for payment for a service you most likely did not order.

Please don’t respond and instead throw these letters in the bin.

100,000 .ie domains registered so far

Progress were pleased to attend the Irish Domain Registry’s 100,000th domain celebration held at the Science Gallery in Trinity College, Dublin on 19 May 2008.

Minister of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Mr Eamon Ryan attended along with other .ie resellers and dignitaries. The 100,000th .ie domain was registered with the IEDR in April 2008.

The .ie domain is growing in importance, as customers want to convey security and a sense of location through their website domain names. Progress, as an official .ie Reseller is pleased to have played a small part in this growth.

What’s in a name?

Ever wondered whether a .com or a .ie domain is better?  Latest figures form the IEDR...

In times past, .com domain names were regarded as having ’universal’ coverage. This is slightly misleading, since any domain name can be accessed from anywhere in the world, once it is correctly configured. .com domain names simply ’took off’ as they were the first TLD (Top Level Domain) available. Hence, every company seemed to have a .com domain name.

It appears however, that more and more Irish companies are returning to the Irish domain .ie

Latest figures from the Irish .ie Domain Registry (IEDR) appear to indicate the same. There are now over 75,000 .ie domains registered in Ireland. Also, registration figures for the month of February reached a record level of 2261, up 17% on February 2006. Source IEDR
